It’s too soon to say if the “bets” Mens Sana made this year have paid off or not. However, the green-and-white team has raised high the season’s first trophy, won with intelligence and vigor against a promising Cimberio Varese. The final scene that Tuesday evening was no less than beautiful: each Mens San player had a chance to raise the Italian Supercup just steps away from the “Brigata biancoverde” curve section and the rest of the crowd. But we were talking about bets. One carries the name Josh Carter, yes, the one that scored Mens Sana’s first official six points by landing two triples. He confirmed the excellent shooting skills so many accredited him with. And he proved to be an good player on defense. It’s certainly not easy to mark a quality player like Età Ere. And then there’s Erick Green, one who just arrived from experiences overseas, where he was the NCAA’s top scorer. One might expect the classic American player who’s on and off, who shoots long distance and defends inconsistently. Instead, we found something very different: he plays with intelligence, passes to open teammates, moves with tactical wisdom, defense and, naturally, takes on the responsibility of shooting. Third quarter Tuesday, no one could mark him. He repeatedly scores and the smile he gave after one of his beautiful shots is another sign of positivity and confidence that this Mens Sana is sending out to fans and the sport of basketball.
