Montepaschi isn’t able to accomplish the task and cedes to Galatasaray 75-84 in the first Euroleague atMandela Forum in Florence.
Galatasaray leads the first quarter but the green-and-whites manage to contain Turkey’s offensive efforts. Green’s triple has Siena trailing by 4 at the end of the first quarter: 16-20.
Turkey takes off second quarter and the halftime score is 33-51.
Montepaschi doesn’t give up their hold and makes a 10-0 run that brings the score to 41-51 after 2’ in. Arroyo scores, then Hackett penetrates at 4’ for a 10 point lead (43-53). It’s strike and counterstrike between the two teams as the gap remains at ten. Turkey takes off with Aldemir and Gordon. Viggiano and Hackett end the run and third quarter ends 52-63.
Galatasaray keeps a distance, but Montepaschi doesn’t let up their hold (59-73 after 4’) and fights tooth and nail to gain ground. With 1’ left, Siena is down by 7 (71-78). Turkey widens the gap from the line, Hackett responds in penetration but Arroyo goes 2/2 from the free throw line. Viggiano shoots and the score is now 75-82, but Turkey’s ex NBA athlete triples. Siena isn’t able to pull it off and cedes to Galatasaray by a score of 75-84.
