Montepaschi wins the Tuscan derby by beating the Giorgio Tesi Group Pistoia 89-66.
Siena starts offs strong and leads 16-4 at mid quarter. Pistoia comes within7 at che 3’ (18-11), but the green-and-whites respond through Hackett and Nelson (+12). Siena maintains a double digit lead through the buzzer, and first quarter ends 31-16.
Siena keeps control of the game and is ahead 39-24. Pistoia warms up their hands and tries to come closer but Montepaschi does a good job of not being caught. Ress brings a 21 point lead with 4’ (47-26). The gap remains wide through to the half. The teams head into the locker rooms 56-34.
Pistoia comes back with a 12-2 break, to which Ress responds. At mid quasrter, Montepaschi is up by 19 (66-47). Cortese narrows the gap with a triple, but Rochestie responds from the arc too. Johnson’s two-hander brings the score to 69-52. The athlete from Montenegro adds another two points in penetration. The score is 71-52 at the buzzer.
The dynamic doesn’t change the final quarter. Montepaschi is ahead 82-61. Siena controls the game and solidifies their lead. In the end, the green-and-whites take the game by a score of 89-66.
