Montepaschi gets back to winning by defeating Cimberio 87-79.
Varese starts off strong with points from Banks and Polonara (7-0). Siena mends the tear and trails by three at mid quarter (11-14). Cimberio responds through Ere, but Hunter and Nelson put Montepaschi on top (17-16 at 3’20”). Polonara and Clark’s baskets put Varese ahead, but Montepaschi keeps breathing down their neck and responds through Ortner. It’s strike and counterstrike between Mei and Ress. Haynes ties the score with a triple (24-24). Rush puts his team up by 1 from the line and first quarter ends 24-25.
Siena comes back to court with a 10-0 break (34-25). Clark ends Mens Sana’s run, but Janning baptizes his return with a triple. At mid quarter, Montepaschi is up by 9 (39-30). Siena leads by 14 with 3’ left (46-32). Haynes has the last two plays for the green-and-whites with a basket and then and assist to Hunter. The two teams head into the half 52-37.
Cimberio gets some points, but Carter triples (55-45 after3’). Varese comes closer at mid quarter to trail by 7 (59-52). Siena widens the gap through Ortner, but Banks makes it a single digit game from the line. Carter triples to a double figure lead, followed by Polonara for a score of 66-56. The nationals player and Banks score to tail by 6 at 2’13” (67-61). Siena is up by 10 again with 1’20” left. Varese responds through Banks and Scekic on the line (1/2), but Haynes has the last work as third quarter ends 73-64.
Cimberio tries to make a comeback and trails by only 3 after 2’ (73-70). It’s Janning with a lay up and Othello with a two-hander for a 7 point lead (77-70). It’s a 7 point game with 4’ left to play. Clark adds points from the line. Siena controls their lead and takes the 87-79.
