Montepaschi brings in a win on game day 4 of the second round by defeating Vuelle Pesaro by a score of 80-70.

The green-and-whites get ahead right from the start with a triple from Haynes. Pesaro narrows the gap, but at 3’ until the first buzzer the green-and-white have a 1o point lead(18-8). The away team comes within 5 but Green’s three at the end of the quarter allows Montepaschi to end the quarter up 24-16.

Pesaro comes back determined and makes a 4-0 break. Haynes ends the run from the arc. the green-and-whites and driven and take the lead at 4’30” (27-28). Anosike gives his team a 3 point lead, then Montepachi gets back ahead through Green Green (32-30 at 3’). Trasolini ties is from the line. Haynes brings in a three point play for a 1 point lead  (35-32 at 1’). The green-and-whites get up by 4 and head into the half 38-32.

Siena returns to court with an 8-3 break to make it an 11 point game after 4′ (46-35). Siena takes a double figure lead (56-42 at 3’20”) to end third quarter 61-46.

Pesaro tries to  come closer but Montepaschi is good at keeping a distance (70-52 after 2.5’ ). Vuelle makes a break that puts then down by 11 (70-59 at 4’). Siena widens the gap with a dunk from Ortner, then Petty responds from the arc. It’s Green for the green-and-whites. Pesaro doesn’t let up and responds strike for strike, but the Virginia Tech athlete and Haynes maintain a safe distance. Montepaschi beats Pesaro 80-70.

Stopping their transition and being ready to do battle on rebounds against the best couple in our championship, Anosike and Trasolini, will be two important aspects.”

Montepaschi got back from their trip to Moscow in the afternoon and headed on court for practice. Two sessions are scheduled for tomorrow: individual sessions in the morning and a technical-tactical session in the afternoon.

Montepaschi fall to Khimki in Russia by a score of 85-73.

Khimki immediately takes the lead through Mike Green, and Montepaschi strikes thorugh Carter.  The green-and-whites trail by three after 4’ (10-7). Siena takes the lead with a 2-6 run (12-13 at 4’40”). Augustine and Monia out the yellow team back on top to end the first quarter up by 5 f(18-13).

Khimiki keeps control of the game and leads 22-15 after  2’. Nelson narrows the gap from the arc, but the Russians manage to get up by 10 (28-18 at mid quarter). They narrow the gap from the line, Popovic goes 1/2 on the free throw line, then Siena brings in a three point play to trail by 6. Khimki has a response ready and takes a double digit lead (36-26). Haynes narrows it from the line, but the yellows are able to make it a 10 point game and the two teams head into the half 40-30.

It’s strike and counter strike between the two teams at the start of the third quarter: after 3’ they’re still separated by 1- (46-36). Montepaschi scores and narrows the gap to eight by mid quarter  (51-43). Green doesn’t miss from the line, followed by Augustine. Nelson triples but Khimki has an answer ready and adds two point from number 4. Loncar responds to Green (59-48 at 2’40). Janning triples to kick off a break that puts Montepaschi within 1, and third quarter ends 59-58.

Green puts Siena on top. Popovic makes a break that puts Khimki up by 5 (65-60). Viggiano ends the run but the Russian point guard knocks down the triple. Koponen follows  (71-62 at 5’20”). Ortenr ends the run but the Russians don’t miss a beat (+11, 77-66 at mid quarter). Montepaschi keeps trying, but Khimki doesn’t waver and takes the match 85-73.

Coach Marco Crespi shares his thoughts about the challenge:

“We’re heading to Moscow to play Khimki based on the confidence we gained during those three days in Milan. We’ve got a few more tactics than we did our first round game and we know that Khimki is a team that’s only lost one game, by chance, so far this season.   and that was in their home Eurocup debut against Romania. Khimki is a team built to play Euroleague, with a 15 game winning streak in the VTB, two out of two wins against Cska Moscow and an authoritative run so far in Eurocup. They’re the only team’s that has qualified. They’ve got great champions able to run the court and even work the ball back to the net.”

This afternoon a representatives from the club will participate in the Sports Pegasus ceremony (4:30, Spazio Reale-San Donnino), the region’s highest honour, along with the USSI Gruppo Toscano Giornalisti Sportivi, Coni Toscana and Cip Toscana. Each year, it’s given to a Tuscan athlete (born or acquired) or club that achieved meaningful sports results in Italy or abroad the previous season, distinguishing themselves with gestures of fair play or working against violence in sports.
