Let’s be honest.Nnot to take anything away from Daniel Hackett, but the MVP award should have gone to Tomas Ress. Why didn’t that happen? It’s simple: voting forms in the press stand are collected at the start of the fourth quarter. That’s a practice obviously dictated by the time necessary to process the votes. It’s not often that a player enters the game and alone – or almost – determines the outcome of a match that had been balanced up to that point. But that’s what happened to Tomas Ress. And it’s not even the first time. You don’t have to look back very far: in Montecatini he flipped the scrimmage against Caserta on its head first quarter. And it doesn’t matter whether it’s a scrimmage of the finals. That’s just how good Tomas Ress is. Last summer, Daniel Hackett said he felt reassured have Ress in the locker room – not so much for himself, but in terms of the guidance the new captain would be able to give newcomers. If only everyone could do that…
