THE LOSS to Nymburk in Pardubice did not compromise the qualification discussion. However, it did put a lot of pressure on Wednesday’s match in Haifa. Mens Sana has to win if they want to continue controlling their own destiny. Khimki winning 6 out of 6 games in not a given, and who’s to say that the home court advantage won’t ever fail in head ons between Nymburk, Haifa and Siena. If those two constants hold true, then it will all come down to shot differential. In that case, the -3 in the Czech Republic can be considered a good outcome, especially in light of Maccabi’s 5 point win at home over Nymburk. This is the situation in Eurocup, a competition that’s proving to be tough with highly talented teams (like Khimki) or ones with a lot of European experience (like Nymburk). Now comes Maccabi Haifa, Israel’s champions. Simply put, one of the three teams capable of beating Maccabi Tel Aviv in the title finals the last 20 years.
