OLYMPIACOS-MONTEPASCHI SIENA 83-41 (24-4; 47-9; 61-22)
Montepaschi falls in Athens, defeated by Olimpiakos 83-41.
Olympiacos immediately makes a break and leads 19-0 by mid quarter. Zisis ends the run with a triple at 2’ before the first buzzer. On the other side, Spanoulis doesn’t miss from the line and Kaukenas responds with only one free throw out of two assigned. But Olympiakos knocks down another triple. Siena’s basked seems cursed and the score at then end of the quarter is 24-4.
It’s another break for the Reds to kick off the second (7-0). Pianigiani sends in Bo McCalebb for the first time after two months of absence. The Reds take their run to 9, but Jaric responds with two points. Olimpiakos leads the game without too much trouble and takes off. Siena can’t find their way to the basket. The two teams head into the half with a score of 47-9.
Third quarter doesn’t bring anything new. Montepaschi tries to react on both defense, where they’re able to limit the Greek’s attempts, and on offense where, however, very few shots from the field make it. The Reds have strong control over the game and lead 61-22 at the third buzzer.
The final quarter doesn’t shake things up much. Siena tries to limit the lead but Olimpiakos take game one of the playoffs 83-41.
